(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> new tonight at 11. multiple reports coming in from all around the south bay. of a meteor sighting just hours ago. kron 4's jeff bush has more on the meteor. >> reporter: the kron four news room hotline was blowing up with viewers calling in to report a blue light flash across the sky around 8 o clock. soon after the event these youtube videos were posted from several differentcheck this one out. it was shot from a camera mounted on the dash of someone's car. you can see the meteor flash on the

right side of your screen and off into the distance. many of the people who saw the meteor said it was blue in color and moving across the sky from south to north. here's another one, in this video you can see the photographer was barely able to get the camera up in time to capture the streak of light going across the sky. here it is again at a slower speed. this is truly amazing stuffconsidering the recent meteor event in russia that wounded hundreds. this is the second major meteor sighting in the bay area in the last four

months. i'm jeff bush in the news room, kron four news. for more on the sighting. astronomer gerald mckeegan is on the phone. describe what's been going on tonight. we've been hearing this sighting is being called a fire ball. another name. a sporadic meteor. what is that? >> they come in from the atmosphere, with several other areas. it could easily be built spotted over the ocean. and perhaps going towards the ocean.

>> pam: and many people are concerned with russia there's no danger associated? >> correct, no danger, none whatsoever. or for the asteroid that came earlier this morning. >> the queu think you tonight seems like a good night for amature astonomers. more than 500 star- gazers attending a viewing party at the chabot space and science center in oakland. all to view an asteroid passing by earth. and all made visible thanks to the chabot telescope. the lines were long to get a glimpse at the asteroid. but those who showed up, said it was worth the wait.

astronomers say, the asteroid's fly-by path. has been tracked for the past year. and, that there was never a threat of it hitting earth. oakland police are still looking for a shooting suspect. earlier they believed that suspect was barricaded in an apartment building on shattuck it all started around 12:30 in the afternoon. this is video of the scene from our helicopter partnership with abc 7 news. police were called out to the corner of mcarthur and broadway. a man there had been shot and was taken to

the hospital. one suspect was arrested at that location. then police went looking for a second suspect as well. the swat team was called out to a north oakland apartment complex. and after several hours, police made entry to the apartment. but the suspect was not there after all. the investigation will continue. we will continue our search for the individual or individuals that witnesses provided information that is connected with today's shooting that occurred around 12:30 at broadway and mcarthur. police say they have a few leads in the case. two san francisco men. bound and beaten with a hatchet. now police are looking for

three suspects . wanted in connection of a bloody home invasion burglary. kron four's philippe djegal shows us the home, which police say, was randomly targeted by theives. the front steps of this home appear to be stained in blood. a clear indication of how brutal thursday night's attack in san francisco's noe valley was. police say a 69-year-old man was asleep in this green home on the 300 block of 27th street at around 10- 30 in the evening. when three men broke in.

tied him up and beat him with a hatchet. police say while the suspects ransacked the house, stealing jewelry. the victim's 58-year-old roommate came home. and, he too was beaten with a hatchet. police say the burglary lasted about an hour, before the suspects ran off. investigators say the victim's were taken to a local hospital with serious cuts. but non-life threatening

injuries. clarke de maigret lives across the street. saying crime is rare in this area. it's mostly homes, and mom and pop businesses that don't attract trouble. police say all three suspects wore dark clothing, and are all believed to be between 25 and 35 years old. two of the men described as hispanic. the third suspect was wearing a dark mask. in san francisco, philippe djegal, kron four news. new details in the case of former police officer chris dorner. who is accused of killing four people. autopsy results show. dorner died from a single gunshot wound to the head. police say, it appears to have been self-inflicted. they say, dorner hid across the street from a police command post. before barricading himself in the cabin in the san bernardino

mountains. at a news conference earlier today, authorities also showed several weapons. believed to be dorner's. first hand account of the friends and family gathered in antioch tonight. to honor the life of hasa-nati white. the 14-year-old girl was struck by a car while crossing the street at the intersection of hillcrest avenue and hidden glen drive on thursday evening. the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. the investigation is ongoing but police say. alcohol and fatal crash.

after hearing the news. schoolmates and friends organized a candlelight vigil. some of the students wrote down their feelings on paper. the principal of the school is collecting the letters and will send them to the family when the time is right.

new information in the deadly stabbing of a teenager in san jose. police say, the the victim is 17-year-old anthony david santa cruz, of san jose. he is thought to have been stabbed to death tuesday evening, following an altercation about a block from san jose high school. the killing is believed gang- related. and now there are concerns about possible retaliation and an escalation of gang violence in the area. police did not reveal anything about possible suspects, but said there were several witnesses who are aiding the investigation. also in san jose, confirmation from police. what at first was thought tonot a full 24 hours off the carnival cruise ship. and lawsuits already underway.

goodell gets big pay raise remember during the nfl lockout in 2011 when commissioner roger goodell voluntarily reduced his salary to $1? well what a publicity stunt that wastax returns show that goodell made $29.5 million that year! so he went from a buck to nearly $30 million in the same year - in 2010 he made $11.6 million - so he got an $18 million pay raise despite reducing his salary to $1 for a short period of time. the $29.5 million makes him commissioner in sports - by $10 million!!!! commissioner david stern and mlb commissioner bud selig the charles woodson era is over in green bay. the packers released the 36 year old woodson after 7 seasons. woodson had two years left on a 5-year, $55 million deal and was due to make $9 million next year. in 2009 woodson was the defensive player of the year for the pack he spent his first 8 seasons with the raiders where he was the rookie of the year in 1998 at age 36, after 15 years in the league - you got to serena oldest #1 ever serena williams regained her number one ranking today in qatar after beating petra kyitova in three sets. in doing so, at age 31 she becomes the oldest woman williams cried after the match when addressing the crowd saying she never thought she would be here again
